KJCA AGM - 8th November 2015

Kent Junior Chess Association, Annual General Meeting
Sunday, 8th November 2015 at 12 noon
At: Sevenoaks Primary School, Bradbourne Park Road, Sevenoaks, Kent

KJCA is pleased to invite and welcome all to its Annual General Meeting which will be held on the 8th November 2015, during training day 2 at Sevenoaks Primary School.

The KJCA provides first class regular competitions and training days across Kent which are the envy of all other counties throughout the UK. It also has a long and proud history of success at its county team events, winning many national titles across all junior age groups. Many Kent players go on to achieve great individual success at National events such as the British Chess Championships held every summer and also through representing England at International  tournaments such as the Worlds and the Europeans (see our Roll of Honour page:

The KJCA is run through the dedication of a few parents just like you. We not only need to hear your voice in order to update and improve our services, but we also need more volunteers to help run the organisation and to help continue the KJCA success for many more years to come. If you are able to give some of your time, even if it is just for a few hours at the various KJCA events, please let us know. You do not necessarily need to know anything about chess.

Come along to the AGM to find out more. All are welcome.

Strong start for the Kent Kestrels at the J4NCL

Well done to the Kent Kestrels, who came second in Division One of the J4NCL, played over the weekend of 3-4 October at the Holiday Inn, Birmingham Airport.

The Kestrels team were: Ximan Mao, Mikey Watson, Jacob Watson, Alejandro Ito-Aramendia and Aurideep Nayak.  The team played some high quality chess and won all three rounds on Saturday, making them joint leaders of the competition going into the second day.

Round four, on the Sunday morning, was the crucial match against the Midland Monarchs. The boys all played well against strong opponents, but unfortunately just lost the round by one point.  However, they didn’t let disappointment take over and went on to win round five against another high graded team, Brown Jack.

Final results were Kent Kestrels second place on 8 match points and Midland Monarchs first on 10 points.

Thanks to all at the J4NCL for organising another high quality and fun tournament.  The boys all enjoyed the chess, playing together, meeting up with friends from around the country, and being in a hotel with a swimming pool.

The next J4NCL will be on the 22-23 November at the Holiday Inn, Birmingham Airport and the final weekend on the 9-10 January.  If any other Kent players are interested in further details, please contact

Well done to the Desert Penguins in their first Junior Four Nations Chess League (J4NCL)

The first J4NCL weekend of the season was held at 3-4 October at the Holiday Inn, Birmingham Airport.  The J4NCL is a team event, with five rounds of standard play chess over the weekend.

The Desert Penguins played in Division two. This young team comprising of Aadarsh Saravanan, Ciaran Brightley-Davies, Stakhey Sedykh and Arthur Chikovsky. The had a really enjoyable competition with some great opponents, great battles and great fun all around.

The Penguins had some good results, including wins in three of the rounds. This meant that they were playing on the top board in the final round with the possibility of a prizewinning finish. They had a tough battle against the Welsh Dragons Blue, but unfortunately couldn't quite hold their nerve and lost the round by a point. They finished the tournament in joint fourth position with 6 match points.

A fantastic start to their first J4NCL team event together. A big thanks to Mikhail Sedykh (Stakhey's dad) who did a sterling job as their manager and coach, and to all the parents for bringing their kids along for the weekend.
