Our next tournament will be the 1st Grand Prix tournament of 2008-9 at Lee on Sunday 28 September.

The Kent Junior Chess Association (KJCA) is responsible for the development of junior chess throughout Kent and south-east London. We and our predecessors have fulfilled this role since at least before the Second World War. We are entirely staffed by volunteers and all surpluses earned are re-invested for the benefit of the local junior chess-playing fraternity.

We run tournaments and coaching days at weekends throughout most of the year around our area and also select the junior County teams from Under 9 to Under 18 to compete in inter-County Championships. The strongest players are encouraged and assisted towards gaining international representative honours . We liaise closely with the local schools and chess clubs to promote competition and opportunities for juniors to participate.

An important part of our ethos is that families attending our events should have an enjoyable day out in pleasant surroundings and a friendly atmosphere in addition to some good games of chess. Win, lose or draw, we hope you’ll make friends and come back!

The team spirit engendered has resulted in many inter-County titles over the years. Our aim to maximise the potential of individual players has also helped many to go on and gain international recognition and, in some cases, to become Grand Masters.

This website is full of information about junior chess locally and nationally. We hope you’ll find it interesting and informative.

Please email entries to webmaster@kjca.org - Thanks to GM Chris Ward for supplying the puzzles.

UPDATED: Okay so this is a very unlikely position but it should be a good exercise in looking out for checks. What I want to know is how many different checks does White have (and note even silly ones count!) and which is the one move that is checkmate ?
