Kent U14/U130 Team win their first SCCU match against Surrey

Congratulations to the Kent u14/u130 team which took on Surrey at Sevenoaks Primary School on 30th November 2014. as part of the Southern Counties Chess Union 2014/15 junior event.

With the Surrey team full of confidence following their impressive 18.5 to 5.5 win against Sussex earlier in the month, we knew this was not going to be easy and scores were tied at 6 all after the first round.

There was everything to play but the Kent players stepped up to the challenge in style with a hard fought 7.5 - 4.5 win in the second round, making the final score 13.5 - 10.5.

There were some strong performances by all the Kent young guns across all the twelve boards, also by our three reserve and little Scarlet, our team mascot for the day. It was a great day and a big thank you to Jo Wildman for organising the event and for getting our team together. Also to Simon and Samantha Metcalfe as always for the organising the food and drink (especially the lovely cookies which did not last long!!!). A huge thank you to the Surrey team and parents for trekking all the way to the Kent countryside and for putting up such great and spirited opposition. Lastly a big thank you to Sevenoaks Primary School for allowing us the use of their lovely school and to everyone who helped on the day.
