World Youth Chess Championship December 2013

The 2013 FIDE World Youth Chess Championship was held in Abu Dhabi from the 18th December to the 29th. There were a total of 1773 players from 121 countries competing at the Championships with England sending 24 players, two of which were from Kent.

Anantha Anilkumar, was one of the four England players in the U12 open section and Jessica Wen represented England in the under 16 Girls section

Anantha, who currently as an U11, has one more year in the U12 section and finished in the top half with an excellent 5.5 points from 11 including a win against a player rated 1970 (FIDE).   

Jessica playing in U16 girls, had a tough draw and played 4 titled players. She had an excellent victory against a WCM in the 10th round and played many long, close games including a five hour marathon in the final round.

In addition, Jackson Wen played in the Al-Ain classic B tournament which was being held at the same time as the WYCC.  He finished with 5 points out of 9, including a draw against a WIM.
